Slowpokes’ Upper Kirby outpost brings the brand’s signature laid-back charm right across from Levy Park. With whimsical animal art, a relaxed aesthetic, and plenty of seating, it’s a breezy place to work, socialize, or unwind before a stroll through the park. Three hours of validated garage parking makes it even more appealing for inner-loopers looking to avoid the usual parking chaos.

The café offers a wide range of drinks—coffee, wine, tea, and house snacks—and while the beans run on the stronger, sharper side, the environment makes lingering here easy. Service is friendly, seating is ample, and both indoor and outdoor options keep the space lively but never overwhelming.

“Digging this second location of Slowpokes and liking how it's nestled within the inner loop. The location is stellar—right across Levy park with plenty of parking situated within the garage. You get in a good three hours of free parking within the garage, as long as you get your ticket validated upon leaving the cafe. There's also a bit of outside parking as well within a three hour timeframe.

Upon entering, you'll notice a few whimsical paintings of sloths, snails and turtles. All things cute and slow. Liking the unique concept as well as the decor. Slowpokes has quite a few items in terms of their beverage menu. Plenty of snacks and foodish items as well.

I opted for a latte and asked which sort of syrups they had. The barista recommended a rose latte and that caught my attention rather quickly. Being a fan of rose flavored anything, I went ahead and ordered the latte that she suggested. Service was friendly and the latte was brought promptly to my table. Although I enjoyed my latte, I really couldn't taste any of the rose flavor. The coffee beans are sour and strong here— not the smooth finish type. Latte was generously filled to the brim and I couldn't finish it all.

Next time I'll opt for a cappuccino. Overall I'm diggin' the vibes, music and aesthetic appeal. Nothing hipster, cramped or stuffy about Slowpokes. It's great to have yet another coffee house within Houston—one that I'll definitely frequent.”
