Magnol French Baking – A Buttery, Authentic Taste of France in Spring Branch

Category: Bakeries

Location: Spring Branch, Houston

Magnol French Baking is one of Houston’s most delightful hidden gems—a true Parisian-inspired treasure tucked inside an industrial pocket of Spring Branch. Unassuming from the outside, this bakery transforms the moment you step through the door: the aroma of butter, warm pastries, and fragrant coffee instantly transports you to a cozy corner of France. Small, bustling, and beloved by those “in the know,” Magnol offers some of the city’s most authentically French baked goods.

Arriving early is essential, as pastries sell out with surprising speed. By 8:45 a.m., trays were already emptying—always a sign of a bakery doing something very, very right. Inside, the atmosphere is bright, airy, and inviting, a striking contrast to its discreet exterior. Imported French jams, honeys, and small treats line the shelves, adding to its boutique charm. Whether you’re craving a flaky pastry, a warm drink, or a moment of morning bliss, Magnol delivers.

Must-Try Items:

  • Pain aux raisins (flaky, crisp & beautifully creamy inside)

  • Madeleines (soft, buttery shell-shaped cakes)

  • Croissants — assorted varieties

  • Linzer cookies

  • Tea lattes & fragrant coffee

“Incredibly tasty, very buttery and authentically French. Magnol Bakery is a true hole in the wall spot.

This spot is located within a discrete and rather industrial part of town. You'll be sure to miss it if speeding past the area. I did not even know this bakery existed until a good friend brought up within a conversation. TY for sharing a piece of mini France in Houston, otherwise I would have never known about this place! It's best to arrive early, as baked goods run out quick. To my surprise, many items were disappearing from shelves around 8:45 a.m. Should I have visited even earlier in the morning? Most likely. This place is packed and quite popular... basically if you're within the know, so you'll know.

The pain aux raisins (flaky puffed pastry rolled with raisins and vanilla crème) was an absolute delight... great crisp and texture. The madeleines (shell shaped butter cakes) were quite nice as well. Their cozy and warm tea lattes as well as coffee was quite fragrant and paired well with the baked treats.

This spot isn't too big from the inside so the line was literally wrapped within the interior of the café. The interior is light and airy, as opposed to the outside of the building. Tucked within one small shelf... they have a few food products for purchase that are imported from France (ie; fruit jam, honey, etc.)

I would love to revisit again... (even earlier in the morning) and try their various croissants, linzer cookie and cute little cakes. They have a few other caffeinated drink options as well to warm up your day. No better moments than visiting during winter or spring season! Thanks Magnol for brightening up my morning.. I'll be sure to visit again. Until we meet again — Au Revoir!”
