La Argentina Gelato & Coffee – A Quiet Spot with Room to Grow [CLOSED]

Updated: Dec 15, 2025

[PERMANENTLY CLOSED - Store No Longer Operating]

La Argentina Gelato & Coffee is a small, tucked-away spot offering South American–style gelato and baked treats. While its reputation has generated quite a bit of buzz, this particular visit left room for improvement. Hidden in a low-traffic corner and offering only a handful of flavors, the experience felt more subdued than the hype suggested.

Customer service presented some communication challenges, making it difficult to ask questions or explore the menu fully. The gelato itself was just okay, and the alfajores—typically known for their soft, tender crumb and creamy dulce de leche—fell short. Hard texture, brittle cookie, and a firm filling made the treat surprisingly disappointing. Still, gelato quality can vary by time of day, and the mid-evening visit may not have captured the shop at its best.

With South American gelato differing in style from Italian versions, and with many positive notes about their coffee, a future visit may offer a better impression. Frozen treat lovers may still find a reason to return and give the flavors another chance, especially alongside a well-reviewed espresso or latte.

What to Try (Next Visit):

  • A fresh batch of gelato earlier in the day

  • Coffee drinks, which receive strong praise

  • Skip the cookies; focus on frozen treats

Review

Sara I. (Aug 11, 2023):

“I thought this spot was just alright. What a hype. Location wise, it is not the easiest to spot, tucked away in a corner of an area that is typically not frequented.

In regards to customer service? It was hard to navigate the conversation due to language barriers. I passionately had a few questions in mind.. but was not able to clearly articulate them due to said obstacle.

Bit of a small spot with few gelato flavors to pick from.. The gelato was just okay... even worse... the alfajores was downright awful. Hard in taste.. and the dulce de leche interior was hard as well. When I imagine alfajores.. it is tender, melt in your mouth, with the dulce de leche being of a very sweet and creamy interior. This one fell short of how the cookie should crumble.. or rather it just disintegrated into dust. Shortbread cookies made with love are awesome.. this one wasn't.

Perhaps it was the time of day we visited.. towards mid-evening. I'll have to revisit in the future certainly.. as I'm a huge fan of frozen treats.. especially gelato. I also understand that South American gelato is different than Italian style gelato.. as I've tried it before through my travels overseas. I want to give their gelato one more try next time around and perhaps pair it with their coffee which seems to get mad reviews. I would stay away from the cookies though and focus on their frozen treats. Here's hoping our next encounter will be a sweeter one.”
