Café Bustelo – A Sunshine-Yellow Pop-Up Brewing Bold Latin Flavor [POP-UP]

Updated: Dec 15, 2025

[PERMANENTLY CLOSED - Store No Longer Operating] ... Just Temporary Pop-Up.

A bright yellow shipping-container café bringing the spirit of Latin coffee culture to Montrose, this pop-up radiates personality, bold espresso, and a nostalgic nod to Gregorio Menendez Bustelo’s iconic coffee legacy. With limited operating hours and an equally limited residency, it quickly became a neighborhood favorite for those seeking a strong, satisfying iced beverage with a cultural twist.

What to Order

  • Iced Café Con Leche – Strong espresso, lightly sweetened, deeply flavorful.

  • Iced Café Mocha – Smooth, chocolatey, and refreshing on a warm day.

  • Pastelitos or Empanadas – Light pastries for pairing with bold Cuban-style coffee.

“You'll spot this bright yellow shipping container situated in the Montrose neighborhood. I was here about two weeks ago and made it just in time for a crisp iced beverage. My friend happened to be the last customer in line and frantically ordered my drink for me (I was running late). So be forewarned… they close exactly at 4 pm every day, so arriving earlier is best.

Luckily we had enough time to chat with the staff and local customers as well. Got in a bit of knowledge on the unique history of Gregorio Menendez Bustelo and the story behind his coffee. I'm liking the selection of all things caffeine here. Ordering a tall iced café con leche was just the right choice on a bright spring day. The espresso has a strong, lovely flavor with just the right amount of sweetness and caffeine to get ya through the day. My friend ordered the iced café mocha and that looked great as well.

In terms of sweet treats, they serve up empanadas and pastelitos. I'm intrigued and will order them next time around with a different coffee of choice. Overall, I'm loving this quirky and unique cafe pop-up. It's like a beam of sunshine on Montrose Boulevard. I waited a few weeks to check it out and luckily didn’t experience long lines.

There’s a cute patch of grass with a few tables and chairs. Walk upstairs and you’ll find more seating with a scenic view. I wish they'd stay longer, but they’re only here until mid-May. Catch them before they ship the container to New York! Can ya send me off with ya?”
