Bismillah Restaurant & Café – Halal Comfort, Big Portions & a Fresh New Look in Sharpstown

Updated: Dec 30, 2025

Bismillah Restaurant & Café has transformed its space with a brighter, cleaner, and more expansive layout—perfect for families, groups, and anyone craving halal comfort food with a South Asian twist. A colorful Houston-themed mural and glowing lighting fixtures give the restaurant a playful-yet-ethereal feel, while the menu blends American classics with Pakistani street-food favorites.

What to Order

  • Classic Burger – Fresh, melty, satisfying, and far more balanced than the spicier options.

  • Papdi Chaat – Crisp, sweet-savory, and a crowd-pleasing South Asian classic.

  • Cajun Fries – Salty, bold, and generously portioned.

Review

Sara I. (Jan 20, 2019):

“I had dinner at Bismillah Café with my mother last night. I specifically came because I heard about the recent renovations—and I hadn’t been in ages. The restaurant is now in a bigger space with a cleaner, brighter look. Plenty of seating for large families and gatherings. There’s even a large painted mural depicting Houston icons—playful and unique. The lighting gives the whole place an ethereal feel.

I don’t normally eat burgers, but I was craving one. I decided on the Diablo burger because it sounded intriguing. I'm a fan of spicy food and figured I could handle it. The lady at the register, who was friendly, recommended it as well. My mom ordered the papdi chaat—an item recently suggested to me, and my mom loves chaat anyway. Both of our orders came out around the same time, and everything tasted fresh.

Unfortunately, the Diablo burger was too spicy for me. The hot sauce had a grainy texture and tasted a bit raw. The burger had all the works—lettuce, onion, tomato—but the cucumbers threw me off. I guess they were added for fusion flair. The Cajun fries that came with it were a heaping pile—salty and overwhelming on top of an already intense burger. I ended up ordering the classic burger because I simply couldn’t eat the first one.

The manager was friendly and brought out the new burger, which was far better. He chatted with us and asked how everything was—something I appreciated, as it made the experience feel homier. The classic burger came with all the basics, minus cucumbers. Melty cheese, ketchup, big bun, big patty—all fresh. I only ate half, but I enjoyed it.

The papdi chaat was crisp and well-balanced, with garbanzo beans and potatoes blanketed in a sweet and savory sauce. Overall, the service was warm, the food fresh, and the dining experience pleasant. I can definitely see myself coming back with family to try other items. I’m not normally in the area, but I recommend everyone visit the newly renovated Bismillah Café. They have something for everyone.”
