The Visit

After coffee nearby on a cold Sunday evening, a warm bowl of pho felt like the natural next step. The restaurant was quiet and mostly empty at the time of visit, offering a calm and unrushed dining environment.

We ordered the “skinny pho”, which is marketed as a smaller portion size.

The Food

The portion was noticeably light on protein. “Skinny” translated more to skimpy, with very little meat in the bowl. An additional charge was paid to increase the portion.

The chicken used in the pho appeared grilled, resulting in a drier texture — more commonly suited for vermicelli bowls rather than traditional pho. In classic pho ga, gently poached or shredded chicken typically complements the delicate broth.

The broth itself lacked the layered, aromatic depth that defines traditional pho. Notes of Vietnamese cinnamon and star anise were faint, with garlic being the dominant flavor. While condiments and fresh peppers helped enhance the bowl, they could not fully compensate for the missing warmth and complexity.

Service & Atmosphere

A few customers came in for takeout orders during the visit. Staff began cleaning midway through the meal, subtly signaling closing procedures.

While the setting was tidy and calm, the overall experience felt average rather than memorable — especially in a city known for standout Vietnamese cuisine.
