Chicken Station – Charcoal-Roasted Peruvian Chicken in Magnolia Park [Permanently Closed]

When the craving hits for juicy, charcoal-roasted chicken with bold Latin flavor, Chicken Station in Magnolia Park (Houston’s East End) delivers exactly that. Specializing in Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken, this casual neighborhood spot focuses on birds marinated for hours, slow-cooked over charcoal, and served with traditional sides and signature spicy sauces.

Peruvian chicken — known for its deep marinade of garlic, spices, and citrus — is all about flavor that penetrates to the bone. At Chicken Station, you can taste that slow, careful preparation in every bite. It’s hearty without feeling overly heavy, and when paired with classic sides like yucca and plantains, it becomes a well-rounded, satisfying meal.

The Food Experience

🍗 Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken – Juicy & Flavor-Packed

The chicken was exactly what the craving called for — juicy, well-marinated, and deeply flavorful. The charcoal cooking method gave it that subtle smokiness that makes Peruvian chicken so crave-worthy.

Even for someone who doesn’t typically gravitate toward this style of comfort food, the balance of protein and sides made it feel like a wholesome, satisfying plate.

The Sides

We paired the chicken with a variety of traditional accompaniments:

🥔 Crispy Yucca

Freshly fried to golden perfection — crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. One of the standout sides of the meal.

🍌 Sweet Plantains

Dark, sticky, caramelized, and beautifully sweet. These paired exceptionally well with the trio of spicy sauces offered. Easily a favorite.

🥦 Steamed Vegetables

Simple and clean — a lighter contrast to the richer items on the plate.

🍚 Peruvian Fried Rice

This one fell short. The soy sauce flavor was overpowering and noticeably salty.

The cole slaw didn’t visually appeal this visit, though the salads looked like solid alternatives. One note for vegetarians: the beans are not vegetarian-friendly — otherwise, black beans would have been a welcome addition to round out a plant-based plate.

Sauces Make the Meal

The three recommended spicy sauces tied everything together — creamy, tangy, and fiery in varying degrees. They added dimension and heat, elevating both the chicken and sides.

Next time? Pairing the meal with a crisp, ice-cold Inca Kola feels like the right move.

Atmosphere & Service

Chicken Station is a small, casual joint in Magnolia Park with a relaxed neighborhood feel. Customer service was warm and friendly, adding to the overall positive experience.

One small critique: the music inside was playing quite loudly — borderline overpowering. Toning it down slightly would enhance the dine-in comfort.

Review

Sara I. (Sep 26, 2018):

“I had a craving for some chicken.. but not any kind of chicken. But a good and juicy one.. that had been marinating for 24 hours and slowly cooking over charcoal. I found what I was looking for here at Chicken Station. The yucca was freshly fried to crisp perfection. My favorite side items would be the plantains and crispy yucca. The plantains were dark, sweet and sticky, just the way they should be.I didn't really care for the fried rice. It was too salty and the soy sauce flavor was an overkill.Overall I enjoyed our juicy chicken plate with all of the spicy sauces. Customer service was warm and friendly. If I'm ever in the area, I will definitely return and try other items from the menu.”

Overall Impression

Chicken Station delivers solid Peruvian-style charcoal chicken in Houston’s East End, with standout sides like crispy yucca and sweet plantains stealing the spotlight. While not every side was a hit, the quality of the chicken and friendly service make it worth revisiting — especially if you’re already in the Magnolia Park area.

It’s casual, flavorful, and satisfying — a cool neighborhood spot for a warm, well-marinated chicken meal.
