What a beautiful, vibrant and retro bakery! This classic all-American bakery has arrived to Houston via Nor'Cal. I had heard about SusieCakes via instagram and had stumbled upon it on my walk through Rice Village. My family and I were greeted very kindly upon entering.. and all the folk running the show were super friendly. Everyone was gleaming with smiles and we felt welcomed. The customer service was phenomenal and we were asked a few times if we had any questions. The desserts behind the counter were glistening and shining with so many colors, shapes and textures. They have so many different options here.. ranging from cupcakes, cake, whoopie pies, cheesecake, bars, etc. I stumbled upon many desserts that I normally wouldn't find at other bakeries - they simply have classic items on their menu. My family and I all chose the mini cupcakes. We opted for the celebration cupcakes. The icing was a lovely sea blue and the cupcake was mini in size. I thought the cupcake would have funfetti inside.. but it only had funfetti on top of the icing. Unfortunately, the mini cupcake was very dry and crumbly in texture. It might have over-baked in the oven, due to its small size and all. The flavour was great though.. and I enjoyed the taste of the icing and the cake. SusieCakes uses fresh and natural ingredients.. and one can simply tell by taking a bite of their desserts. I like how the desserts arent overly sweet and they have a great taste. My family and I tried the sample of their chocolate and peppermint cake.. it was delish. I might have to grab a large slice of cake next time around. It might not be as dry. The large blue colored celebration cake has my eye as well.. and i'd love to try it even if its not my birthday! :) SusieCakes reminds me of Magnolia Bakery in NYC. Many of their desserts look similar to Magnolia and its nice to have that kind of variety. This charming bakery definitely has potential and I look forward in visiting again. Will update soon.
